Glenda Frances Reynolds -
Aylesbury Oakfield |
Glenda was born in the City of London and educated at the Borough Paragon Technical College, Old Kent Road and S.E. London College of Further Education, New Cross. She lived and worked in London for 29 years before emigrating to Australia in 1969 returning to the U.K after 4 years, again to London. She then moved to Stevenage, and finally in 1984 to Aylesbury.
A lifelong member of the Liberal Party she was first elected to the District Council in 1991 during a by-election for the Oakfield Ward and has continued to represent this ward.
In the past 4 years Glenda has been working with local residents to set up and maintain Resident Associations. This has been successful to some extend but she is aware of the need to encourage the attract more people to join in the work that has already been achieved.
One of her main ambitions has been to replace the Eagles Road Community Centre and there is now growing support for this amongst the local residents, Aylesbury Town Council, Bucks County Council and Aylesbury Vale District Council. Glenda says 'It is taking time but the recognition that there is a need has been accomplished and is a worthwhile project'.
Glenda has served for some years on AVDC's Planning Committee and is concerned with the incursion of development in the open countryside. Whilst recognising the need for growth Glenda feels that there is a lack of planning and investment with regard to jobs and infrastructure coming down to local councils from the Government. Glenda states 'Whilst I will not be around in 50 years time, I would hate to think that this beautiful Vale will disappear under a sea of concrete.'
The worst thing about being a councillor she says is not always being able to achieve the goals you set for yourself.
What Glenda likes best about living in Aylesbury is that it is a small and friendly town which has a great deal of potential. Buckinghamshire county is a beautiful area which is held back by small minded Tories who have very little vision.
