Maria Butler - Quarrendon

I was first elected in 2000, I was invited to stand as a District Councillor by the Liberal Democrats because of the work I had been doing locally. This was something that I had never really considered but greatly honoured to be asked.

This has been a busy seven years so far and with being a mum to two teenage boys and working full time it can be hard to fit everything in. I stood for a couple of years as a Town Councillor but felt that it was too much and needed to have more time to concentrate on my ward duties, As at that time I was fortunate enough represent the town as mayoress to Ray Ghent who was the Town Mayor.

What I would like to achieve is to make sure Aylesbury Vale is attractive to tourists and shoppers and to make it a great place to work and live. As a councillor I am able to bring the issues of my ward to the officers of the council.

The worst thing about being a councillor is the amount of paperwork we have to wade through and getting blamed for things that have nothing to do with AVDC or me!.

What I like best about Aylesbury is the huge potential this area has over the next 30 years and being a part of this is truly the greatest honour that any one could have.
