Niknam Hussain - BCC: Aylesbury North

I was born in Pakistan but have lived in Aylesbury since 1964. Having moved here with my parents who were originally from the North West Frontier of Pakistan. I have always lived in Aylesbury apart from when I went away to London to study for my degree. During the degree I had a great year working in Droitwich which provided a great contrast to living in London and Aylesbury.

After completing my degree, although always working in London I have lived in Aylesbury to be close to my family. For a long while I was part of the great commuter exodus every morning to London. First working in advertising, then various parts of the Marketing industry, finally after completing an MBA, working in the City.

I finally realized my ambition of living and working in Aylesbury by setting up an IT Consultancy and Web Design Company.

I was first elected as an independent councilor in 1999; joining the Liberal Democrats in 2000, I was elected as a Councillor on to Aylesbury Vale District Council and Aylesbury Town Council. I was also elected on to the Buckinghamshire County Council in 2005.

In 2006 I was given the great honour of being elected Mayor of Aylesbury Town.

I am lucky to have a supportive family and have four children, the rest of my immediate family all live in Aylesbury.

Like a lot of people I thought there wasn't much one could do to affect change, but I now sincerely believe that one has to be involved. I will work tirelessly to ensure where we live is the best it can be, and to serve all my constituents.
