Ray Ghent - Quarrendon

I was first elected in May 1999. Since then I think the best thing I have helped to achieve as a District Councillor has been the setting up and running of the Quarrendon & Meadowcroft Community Action Partnership. This residents' forum meets every second Tuesday of the month at the Community Centre.
In 2000 I started the “Proms In The Square/Park” which has gone on to become an annual event.

I am also a Town Councillor and was honoured in 2002 by being elected Mayor of our town. As a Town Councillor I am the spokesperson for the Events Working Group seeking ways in which to bring entertainment and fun for the family to Aylesbury. In recent years we have introduced St George’s Day celebrations, Aylesbury-On-Sea, which this year 2007 will sea a large Pier erected in Kingsbury and re-introduced the Charter Day celebrations, as a Tudor Fayre.

What else would I like to achieve? The underlying problems in Quarrendon are the lack of inexpensive activities for the younger people. I would like to see the refurbishment of the BMX track to help towards remedying this problem.
Wouldn’t it be great to see a purpose built unit to house Age Concern and Bucks Association for the Blind.

And the worst thing about being a councillor? Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork!

I enjoy the vibrancy of Aylesbury and its closeness to being able to get out into the surrounding countryside.

Apart from being a councillor, I enjoy music, photography and the powerful use my computer provides. In January 2007 I started the Bucks Group of www.ePHOTOzine.com
