County Challenged to Improve Road Safety
19th February 2007
|
Glenda has asked Bucks County Council to look into the possibility of siting a Toucan Crossing on Oakfield
Road between Stanhope Road and Olivier Way much nearer to Broughton Avenue than the present zebra
crossing north of Wingate Walk. As Glenda says “The most important reason for a crossing is to help
children attending Broughton first and middle schools get over the busy Oakfield Road. The current
crossing is too far away and tempts children and parents to cross at the wrong place because it is quicker. It would greatly improve safety if there was a crossing point nearer to Broughton Avenue.
Cllr Raj Khan adds, “Following pressure from local people and Lib Dem Councillors, the County Council has
agreed to introduce a 30 mph speed limit along all of Oakfield Road, which should help reduce the speed of
traffic coming over the canal bridge. Now we are suggesting that they go a small step further and make it
easier for people by installing a crossing that is more helpful for school pupils.”
