IMPROVING VICTORIA PARK
19th February 2007

Cllr Glenda Reynolds and Cllr Chloe Willetts have been working with the local Residents’ Association, the County Council,
Aylesbury Grammar School and others to try to tackle the problems in this area. On the one hand, there
have been many reports of anti-social behaviour in and frequent damage to the fence separating the
Park itself from neighbouring roads. On the other hand, although Aylesbury Grammar School nominally
uses the park as a sports field, it is not convenient for them, is greatly underused and could be a real
local asset rather than a problem.

As Glenda says, “A small number of young people have been causing problems in this area and we will
continue to work with the Police (both though the Neighbourhood Action Group and directly) and social
services to deal with that issue. However, the vast majority of young people are not a problem and the
Park could be used to make their lives better. Indeed, if it were open to the public, that would result in
less people playing in the streets of the Victoria Park area, which would benefit both the residents and
the young people.”

Chloe adds “I have had discussions with both the County Council and the Head Master at the Grammar School and they are willing
to talk constructively about what might be done.
