County Council agree to consultation on revised Watermead road schemes
Jan 2006

Following the huge attendance and comments made at the public meeting organised by Watermead Parish Council between local residents and representatives of Bucks County Council and pressure from your local County Councillors, Raj Khan and Chloe Willetts, Bucks County Council agreed this week to re-consult local residents on a changes to the proposed scheme for the A413 road junctions with Watermead and Oliffe Close and the Horse and Jockey roundabout.

“This is a major victory for local residents” said local County Councillor Raj Khan “it just shows what local residents can achieve. We offered to put to full council a Notice of Motion which was agreed. It is clear that Bucks C.C. did not want to debate this specific subject in public and this added significantly to the pressure put upon the council. We have now altered our motion to revolve around the way Bucks C.C consult in some circumstances. We want to consultation and engagement in any future discussions”.

The County will brief County Councillors on the proposed changes during the week 20th – 27th February and go out to consultation with local residents in early March.

Currently we understand that the proposed changes include:

> the retention of the Watermead / A413 roundabout,

> Oliffe Close roundabout

> traffic lights replacing the Horse and Jockey roundabout. (More detail needed –waiting for e-mailed details, part time).

Chloe Willetts added “Its clear that the original consultation was not carried out correctly in some areas and the fact that the County Council, under significant pressure, has effectively recognised this. What the County Council are now offering maybe not exactly what local residents want but it’s a basis for negotiation”

As always we will keep you informed of any further progress
