Unfair council tax hits pensioners and low paid hardest

Commenting on the publication of the CIPFA survey of expected Council Tax increases, Liberal Democrat Shadow Local Government Secretary, Andrew Stunell MP said:
"These figures highlight the totally unfair burden council tax places on pensioners and the low paid.
"More people will be added to the two million people already struggling to pay their council tax bills. It is essential the Government abandons the unjust council tax.
"There’s still time to replace council tax with a fairer alternative based on people’s ability to pay. The Government could still make amendments to the Local Government bill going through the Commons at the moment, and scrap the council tax."
